You do not want to miss the 2006 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast, Monday, January 16, 2006!

We will celebrate the life of Dr. King and continue our quest to make his dream reality with the theme, "Affirming our Moral and Spiritual Roots: Seeking a Revolution of Values." There is a national concern about the continuing erosion of the sense of decency and the traditional moral values that underpin our American democracy in the era of "Blogs" and "Globalization." The virtues of faith and family are under constant ridicule and spiritual desensitization is pandemic, all under the ruse of social tolerance, individual freedom and justice. In 1967, Dr. King, with marvelous foresight, addressed these issues and his comments are relevant today. He said: "The stability of the large world house which is ours will involve a revolution of values to accompany the scientific and freedom revolutions engulfing the earth. We must rapidly begin the shift from a "thing" –oriented society to a "person" –oriented society. When machines and computers, profit motives and property rights are considered more important than people, the giant triplets of racism, materialism and militarism are incapable of being conquered. A civilization can flounder as readily in the face of moral and spiritual bankruptcy as it can through financial bankruptcy." With this event, we will examine the causes and remedies for moral and spiritual bankruptcy. Proceeds of this event will support the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Creative Writing Contest for Metrowest and Greater Boston students, and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Youth Conference. Arming our youth with a sense of oneness and community through programs such as these will empower them not only to grow into responsible adults but will also give them tools and the impetus to live in respect for others with empathy and courage, enabling them to readily and always live the positive response to Dr. King’s essential challenge.
