Announcements & Events

During last Sunday's service we were introduced to Pastor Albert Anderson and his family, who were staying at the house of our own Connie Miles, as he prepared to run in the Boston Marathon.

As pastor at the Howard Christian Center in Eastover, SC, he is one of many South Carolinians who have come to run in the Boston Marathon.  See the link below where his name appears 4th on the list.

Well the race is now over and Pastor Anderson indicated he finished in a time of 3:37:54, which is his best in the three times he has run the Boston Marathon.  Not bad for a 59 year old father of three married daughters and five grandchildren.

He has been running for 22 years.  It began because his doctor told him he had high cholesterol and wanted to put him on medication.  Not wanting to deal with the possible side effects of the medication, he consulted several bible passages concerning how one should eat Leviticus 11 ,   Deuteronomy 14 ,   Daniel 1 , and   I Timothy 4 ).  In addition a co-worker introduced him to running as a way of getting more exercise.

Over the years, Pastor Anderson has run a total of 11 or 12 marathons in addition to a number of races at shorter distances, such as 5K and 10K.  The bottom line is he feels physically fit and his cholesterol has been lowered.

GFCC congratulates Pastor Anderson for his Boston Marathon finish and the model he has set for how to live a healthy life.
