Wizpy - stupid name, very cool Linux toy

Now you don't have to lug around your laptop, just access a PC and you're off in your own, comfortable desktop environment. And best of all, no one can see what you've done or where you've been because it leaves no trace of history data.

Windows Linux DualBoot Tutorial

This tutorial was written to help set up a dual boot on a SATA drive but it will also work for PATA so continue forward and I will let you know if you need to skip something. In order to have a fully functional dual boot system it is preferred that Windows be loaded first.

Why Linux will not displace Windows

I firmly believe that, all else being equal, the differences between the Windows desktop, the Macintosh desktop, and the Linux desktop are negligible. With the proper applications, all three platforms will be capable of providing a satisfactory experience for any user. All three platforms have both free and commercial products available for personal productivity, web browsing, and basic multimedia. Yet, Windows dominates. Why?

Why is anyone still using Internet Explorer?

OK, how many times must Internet Explorer be ripped open like a hot 16-year old in a summer slasher movie before people finally get it: IE is not safe. Period. End of Statement.

When is a standard not a standard?

My mother receives documents from theater organizations in .doc and .xls formats, as do I from local organizations. The local Cambridge and Cambridgeshire governments post documents on their web sites using them. I understand how people can see it as a standard. Except it is not.

Watch your work habits with Rachota 2.1

Waiting for Dell

In Samuel Beckett's masterpiece, Waiting for Godot, Godot never arrives, and the play ends with our characters still waiting. I sometimes think Linux users are also stuck in a barren landscape endlessly waiting for Dell, HP, Lenovo, or another major vendor to finally deliver a mass-market Linux desktop.

U.S. OLPC recipients irate over delays, headaches

"It was for a good cause and also I really wanted a cool geeky toy for myself," Ruggiero says. Two and half months after placing his order, Ruggiero still has no XO, and he--and many others who took advantage of OLPC's Give One, Get One program--are furious about having to deal with a litany of problems associated with the purchase.

The Emerging Dell-Linux-Apple War

While we spend a lot of time talking about Linux vs. Windows and Windows vs. the MacOS, the real battle for the Windows desktop alternative may be the preliminary round between the MacOS and Linux. That battle really kicks off this year with Apple stepping up their effort sharply with the Leopard, and Dell becoming aggressive (with others likely to follow) with SUSE Linux (though this choice may change).

PC hardware can pose rootkit threat

Every component in a PC, such as graphics cards, DVD drives and batteries, has some memory space for the software that runs it, called firmware.
