A Word From Our Pastor: Happy Advent!

What's so happy about Advent!?
So glad you asked.

Advent, when first observed, was a season preparing for Epiphany, January 6th. It did not commemorate Jesus' birth, but his adoration by the Magi. It was originally a time of fasting and self-reflection. Over the years it has evolved into a host of "celebrations". The meaning of the season has changed substantially over the centuries. As Christians, ours is to keep true to Christ, the center of our joy and "remember the reason for the season". In so doing we should use this time to meditate on the hope of our calling. This process will bring us to the point of celebration...celebration of His first coming and His soon second coming. To come to this place in our own heart is worth shouting about. So allow the meditation of your heart to give way to your "Christmas Shout".

So during this time leading up to Christmas, why not greet each other with a "Happy Advent"?   .....what you are saying is that you know the reason for the season!!!

Because the Tomb is empty!
